Terraform installation

Instructor: The first step before you can use Terraform is to download it. So, you can go to terraform.io, and then click the Download button. And then you can immediately see the different options depending on your operating system. I am on MacOS, so this is very easy. Just those two commands in a terminal and it'll install Terraform. Or you can use a manual download just to download the binary. If you are on Linux, I would suggest just use a package manager, Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, Amazon Linux, or even Homebrew. If you are on Windows, there's a Windows binary download and there's a separate lecture on that. So go to the Windows lecture. Or you can also use a package manager. The package manager is not really explained or shown here, so you would have to go to the tutorial library to even find it. And then here there's Chocolatey on Windows. Chocolatey is a free and open source package management system for Windows to install Terraform package. But this is not directly maintained by HashiCorp. So if you are familiar with Chocolatey or you wanna try out a package manager, you can use this one. That's a really easy way to install it. Or if you are on Windows and you need to use a binary download, there's a separate lecture on that. The same lecture also contains some instructions about how to use PuTTY and PuTTYgen to generate open SSH keys in Windows. So if you don't know how to do that, also definitely check that out. So it's very easy if you're on MacOS. Fairly easy if you're on Linux. On Windows can be a bit tricky. This is the easiest way, Chocolatey installed Terraform. You have also the binaries to download manually, which I have in separate lectures. So head over there if you need to do that for Windows. Once you have installed Terraform, check with the command Terraform -v, whether you have the latest version. So I am on 1.8.5, but that is actually a 1.9.8. so I should actually be updating my Terraform version to 1.9.8, which I can do with Brew on my Mac.
