My name is Elice and I am the founder of The Merch School. I have worked in fashion for over 15 years starting in the shop floor as a teenager as my 2nd job for years and whilst studying at university and fashion college. I studied international business as well as environmental studies as an undergraduate student at university. I also studied for a certificate in clothing production and then did a diploma in fashion design and technology.
After graduating I transitioned to head office roles as dispatch and stock manager and production assistant before moving on to be an Allocator, Assistant Planner and now a Merchandise Planner. I work closely with the Buyers and Designers to help products and a collection come to life in stores. I also manage the budget and spend for my categories. You can learn all about what my colleagues and I do in this course!
I have worked for 8 different fashion companies small and large like a designer womenswear brand, mens suiting brand, swimwear start up, fast fashion ladies wear, costume jewellery brand, sportswear brand, plus sized retailers and a heritage brand.
Come with me on this journey to learn all about the hundreds of fashion jobs available. It is not stylists, photographers and designers but business people, scientists, analysts, marketers, supply chain managers, finance people, creatives and many more that make this industry possible and a huge part of the global economy.
It is one of the few industries where there is something for almost everyone and you can work across the globe in this multi trillion dollar industry.
I am currently studying my masters degree in finance and marketing and am running The Merch School. I hope to guide and teach as many people as possible on how the fashion industry works, how to get your first job and the many career paths you can take.
I have always wanted to work in the fashion industry but found myself at a crossroads when I didn't want to work in design. Was there any other job I could do that I would love? Yes there were, and there are many.
