A Life of Innovation, Mentorship, and Sustainability
Hi, I’m Stan Bournias, and I’ve been working in the refrigeration, air-conditioning, mechanical services, and automation industries for over 44 years. I was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia, and I’m proud to say that I’ve spent my entire career learning, doing, and now teaching the trades I love.
I started out as a hands-on technician, out in the field diagnosing systems, fixing faults, and getting my hands dirty. Over time, I moved into the world of automation—designing, programming, installing, and commissioning control systems for commercial and industrial environments. That shift wasn’t just about expanding my technical skills; it was about understanding how to make systems smarter, more efficient, and future-ready.
These days, I work as a trainer, assessor, and course developer at TAFE SA and PEER. Teaching isn’t just a job for me—it’s a way to give back. I know what it’s like to be a student, to be curious, and to want to get better at something real and practical. That’s why I make it my mission to teach with empathy and clarity, bringing my real-world experience into every lesson. I don’t just teach the “how”—I share the “why” behind everything I do.
What drives me most is helping learners gain confidence in themselves and their skills. I’ve walked the path they’re on, and I know how transformative it can be when someone believes in your potential.
Right now, I’m also putting my skills to work in my own life—developing a fully sustainable, off-grid home. It’s a personal project that brings together everything I know about energy systems, automation, and sustainable living. I live on a farm where I practice what I teach—efficiency, independence, and thoughtful design.
At this point in my life, my goal is simple: to keep living with purpose, to stay healthy and happy, and to inspire others to build a life—and career—they can be proud of.
