JAP da Silva is Full Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Coimbra, Portugal having obtained his medical specialty and PhD at the University of London, United Kingdom, in 1993.

He was Chairman of the Education Committee and member of the Executive Committee of EULAR (European League Against Rheumatism) for 10 years and President of the European Board of Rheumatology for 5 years.

He is the author of more than 250 articles in prestigious international medical journals (Hoechst Index 38 as of Sept 2020), including many on Fibromyalgia. He co-authored the treatment recommendations for Fibromyalgia published by EULAR in 2008. He collaborates regularly with ENFA (European Network of Fibromyalgia Associations). JAP da Silva maintains intense research and teaching activity, being an active and prestigious member of international research and cooperation networks.
