Retired Correctional Lieutenant with the California Department of corrections. I am certified crisis intervention instructor and a teacher of interview techniques and a self-defense instructor for over seventeen years, with published videos on self-defense. My working as a correctional officer and lieutenant for over twenty-five years gave me insight into the reality of violence and defense. I was involved in over two hundred and sixty violent altercations and in my first ten years I subdued and placed over 3500 resisting inmates in handcuffs. This taught me that training and execution of technique may not always be in sync.
