Kato Masao is a Nara-based researcher and photographer who has spent over a decade exploring the historical sites of Japan on foot. Since age 50, he has made "the beauty and spirit of Japan" his life's theme, writing a monthly culture column and teaching local courses for 12 years. His knowledge comes not from academia, but from walking the actual ground where history happened.
