I worked for seven years in the senior‑care field as a social worker. In the adult day‑service program, I had many opportunities to use my hands-on creativity—offering crafts, sewing projects, and handmade items that brought joy to many of the participants.
In the two years before moving to Canada, I worked in a specialized dementia‑care unit, focusing on how to support people in living their final stage of life with dignity.
I immigrated to Canada in 2009 and received my permanent residency in 2013. Since 2014, I have been working as an early childhood educator. In Japan, I was a professional supporting the end of life; in Canada, I became a professional supporting the beginning of life.
When I first started this work, my English was not strong, and misunderstandings with colleagues happened often. But using English opened doors to meeting people I never would have met otherwise. I made friends, found colleagues I could talk with deeply, and became part of my local community through volunteering and various activities. These experiences have shaped my life in Canada.
