About me
I’m Matt, the founder of Forged Grit and a lifelong student of human performance.
I have a PhD in Pathology and more than 30 years of experience training across endurance sports, strength training, ultrarunning, triathlon, powerlifting, CrossFit, adventure racing, and plenty of questionable ideas involving heavy objects and unnecessary suffering.
My work sits at the intersection of exercise science, physiology, coaching, and real life. I am less interested in finding the “perfect” program than I am in helping people understand what they are actually trying to build, why their training works, and how to keep making progress when life gets messy.
That is the idea behind Forged Grit.
I teach training as a system for building capability under pressure. Strength matters. Endurance matters. Power matters. Durability matters. But none of them exist in a vacuum. Your job, schedule, stress, recovery, injuries, goals, and available equipment all matter too.
My courses are designed to cut through fitness nonsense without turning exercise science into a hostage negotiation with a textbook. You will get evidence-based principles, practical coaching, strong opinions, occasional sarcasm, and systems you can actually use.
I am not here to convince you that one training method is superior to everything else. I am here to help you understand the tools well enough to choose the right ones for the job.
Because the goal is not to become good at following programs.
The goal is to become harder to break, more capable, and better at performing when conditions are less than perfect.
