I Help Retail & Consumer Businesses Turn Operational Complexity Into Profitable, Scalable Growth
With 32+ years of leadership experience across Retail and Telecom, in India and international markets, I bring a combination that is difficult to find: deep frontline operating experience, commercial leadership, and practical consulting capability.
I have not built my career by advising businesses from the outside.
I have run large retail businesses, managed thousands of employees, opened stores, built operating systems, managed P&Ls, worked with franchise networks, solved operational problems, and led businesses through growth and change.
Today, I use that experience to help retailers, entrepreneurs, SMEs and consumer businesses identify what is holding back growth—and put the right systems, people and processes in place to fix it.
Founder & Head – CGR Brands
I am the Founder and Head of CGR Brands, a business advisory firm focused on Retail, E-commerce and SME transformation.
Our approach is practical:
Diagnose the problem → identify the gaps → design the solution → implement it → measure the result.
We work with businesses that are growing, preparing to scale, facing operational challenges, launching new stores, entering new markets or trying to improve profitability.
Our work covers the complete retail operating model:
Business Strategy & Commercial Planning
Retail Profitability & P&L Improvement
Process Mapping & Gap Analysis
SOP Development & Process Reengineering
Store Layout & Customer Flow
Organisation Structure & Manpower Planning
Team Capability & Training
IT, CRM & Retail Technology Integration
Marketing & Customer Acquisition
E-commerce & D2C
Quick Commerce
Supply Chain & Warehouse Operations
Franchise & Network Expansion
Store Launch & Rollout Execution
The objective is simple:
Build a retail business that can perform consistently without depending on individual firefighting.
Corporate Leadership: Experience at Scale
My corporate career has given me direct exposure to some of India's most recognised retail businesses.
Future Retail – Chief of Operations, East Zone
Led operations for 56 Big Bazaar stores across the East Zone, covering:
1.9 million sq. ft. retail space
₹2,600 crore annual turnover
4,000+ employees
This involved managing a large, geographically distributed retail operation where sales, margins, inventory, people, customer experience and operating discipline had to work together every day.
This experience shaped my approach to consulting: retail performance is rarely driven by one isolated problem. It is usually the result of multiple operating decisions working together—or working against each other.
Windshield Experts – Chief Operating Officer
Led a national auto-retail business operating through company-owned and franchise locations across India.
Focused on:
Network expansion
Operational scalability
Franchise management
Standardisation
Store execution
Business performance
This experience strengthened my understanding of how businesses move from one successful operation to a repeatable multi-location model.
Spencer's Retail – Business Manager, East & UP
Managed hypermarkets, supermarkets and smaller-format stores with approximately ₹750 crore turnover.
Responsibilities included:
Commercial performance
Store operations
Supply chain
Merchandising
People management
Multi-region execution
Lifestyle & Ebony Retail
I was the first Business Manager for Lifestyle Stores in Gurgaon and also served as Business Manager at Ebony Retail.
These roles gave me early exposure to the development of India's organised retail sector and the challenges of building retail operations during a period of rapid market expansion.
Shoppers Stop – Store Launch Leadership
Played a key role in launching the second Shoppers Stop store in Mumbai in 2000, during the formative years of modern organised retail in India.
Store launches taught me an important lesson that continues to influence my consulting work:
A successful retail concept means very little if the execution model cannot consistently deliver it.
From Telecom to Retail Leadership
My professional journey began during the formative years of India's telecom liberalisation.
I worked across:
Channel Sales
Corporate Sales
Distribution
Enterprise Relationships
This early experience gave me a strong understanding of distribution, channel economics, customer acquisition and relationship-driven business development—capabilities that continue to influence my approach to retail and consumer businesses.
From Operating Businesses to Advising Business Owners
Today, my role is different—but the objective remains the same.
I work with business owners and leadership teams who often face questions such as:
Why is revenue growing but profitability not improving?
Why does the business depend so heavily on a few people?
Why do different stores operate differently?
Where are costs leaking from the operation?
Why is inventory increasing without a corresponding increase in sales?
How do we scale without losing operational control?
Are we ready to expand into new locations or markets?
Do we have the right people and processes to support the next stage of growth?
These are not purely strategy questions.
They are execution questions.
That is where my experience becomes relevant.
I look at the business from the perspective of strategy, customer, people, process, technology, inventory, cost and profitability—and then connect those pieces to the commercial outcome.
Academic & Thought Leadership
Alongside my corporate and consulting career, I have remained actively involved in retail education and capability building.
I have contributed as:
Faculty at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
Faculty at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University
Guest Lecturer at Shri Vishwakarma University
Contributor to approximately 40% of the retail course content for IGNOU's retail programme
This combination of industry experience and academic engagement allows me to translate complex retail concepts into practical frameworks that teams can understand and apply.
What I Help Businesses Solve
My consulting focus is built around five areas:
1. Retail Strategy & Profitability
Helping businesses understand where profit is being created, where it is being lost, and what needs to change.
2. Operational Performance
Finding process gaps, unnecessary costs, productivity issues and execution failures that affect business performance.
3. Store Launch & Expansion
Creating the systems, processes, people structure and operating standards required to launch and scale multiple locations.
4. SME Structuring & Scale Readiness
Helping growing businesses move from founder-driven execution to structured systems, defined accountability and repeatable processes.
5. Leadership Hiring & Team Architecture
Through NamasteyIndiaJobs, I also support senior-level recruitment across retail and allied sectors.
Because growth ultimately depends on more than strategy.
You need the right people to execute it.
My Consulting Philosophy
I believe businesses rarely need more complexity.
They need clarity.
Clarity about:
What is happening?
Why is it happening?
What is it costing the business?
What needs to change?
Who owns the change?
How will we measure the result?
My work therefore focuses on moving businesses from:
Fragmented execution → Structured operations
Firefighting → Process discipline
People dependency → Defined accountability
Revenue focus → Profitable growth
Single-store success → Scalable operating models
Strategy on paper → Execution in the market
The objective is not simply to produce another report or presentation.
The objective is to help the business perform better.
Why Businesses Work With Me
I bring three perspectives to the table:
The Operator — I have run large businesses and understand what happens on the ground.
The Strategist — I understand commercial planning, growth, profitability and scale.
The Consultant — I bring structured problem-solving, process improvement and implementation discipline.
That combination allows me to bridge a gap that many businesses struggle with:
Connecting strategy with execution.
For me, consulting is not about telling a business owner what they already know.
It is about finding what they may not be seeing, quantifying the impact, identifying the root cause and helping them act on it.
Positioning
I help Retail, Consumer and SME businesses build the strategy, processes, people and operating discipline required to achieve profitable and scalable growth.
If your business is growing but becoming harder to control, if profitability is not keeping pace with revenue, or if you are preparing for the next stage o
