Julio Crespo-MacLennan is a historian, international relations scholar and writer. At present he is a professor of history of International relations at IE university. He has published seven books and has lectured in over thirty countries and diverse international forums. He is a frequent contributor to the daily press and some of his articles are published internationally.
He holds a B.A. MA and a D.Phil in history from Oxford University. He was an Iberian and European Studies fellow at St. Antony's College, Oxford, and has been a visiting professor at Tufts University in Boston, and London School of Economics. His research has mainly focused on modern European history, Europe in the world, and history of democracy.
His book Europa, how Europe shaped the modern world (Pegasus Books, 2018), a pioneering pan-European history beyond the barriers of the nation-states, was critically acclaimed and was recently published in China. His most recent book The European monarchy, an international history, will be published shortly.
The At present he is working on a history of democracy from antiquity to the 21st century, based on his most popular course on the same subject, for which he has received several teaching excellence awards at IE University.
