Hi, I'm Kevin R. Burns, a university instructor, entrepreneur, and lifelong educator with more than 30 years of experience teaching, building businesses, and helping people develop practical skills.
I started my first English school in Japan in 1991 and went on to build and operate a chain of English schools for 30 years. Today, I teach English at two Japanese universities and create online courses in English communication, business, entrepreneurship, AI, and professional development.
But I don't just teach business—I do it.
I've started and managed businesses in education, hospitality, travel, and online publishing. I own and operate guest houses in Japan and created I Am Hakone, a travel website dedicated to the beautiful Hakone area. I also run the Burns Hustles blog and YouTube channel, where I explore entrepreneurship, side hustles, and practical ways to use AI. My Kevin's English Schools YouTube channel helps English learners improve their communication skills.
My career has taken some interesting turns along the way. I've worked as a radio DJ in Tokyo, performed stand-up comedy, appeared on television in Japan, and appeared on radio in Canada. Those experiences taught me something important: learning should be practical, engaging, and enjoyable.

I don't want to overwhelm you with theory. My goal is to explain things clearly, give you practical examples, and help you develop skills you can actually use—in your career, your business, and your everyday life.
