Max Stockwell has spent more than 25 years working across the global oil and gas industry, from offshore platforms in the North Sea and Australia to land rigs in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. During that time, he has worked in operational, service, management, and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) roles, gaining first-hand experience of both the realities of life on a rig and the systems designed to keep people safe.
Holding qualifications including the NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH, and an MBA in Energy and Sustainability, Max combines practical field experience with a strong understanding of safety management and organisational leadership.
Unlike traditional safety training, his courses focus on the gap between written procedures and real-world operations. Drawing on hundreds of rigs, decades of experience, and lessons learned from both successes and mistakes, he explains not just what the rules are, but why they exist, where they fail, and how they can genuinely save lives.
His teaching style is direct, practical, and grounded in real experience. Rather than relying on corporate slogans or theory alone, he shares the lessons learned from decades in one of the world's highest-risk industries, helping workers, supervisors, and HSE professionals make better decisions, build stronger safety cultures, and ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of every hitch.
