From Exploration Geologist to Trusted Advisor of the Boardroom

My career started as an exploration geologist, learning to read what's beneath the surface to understand what's really going on. That instinct has shaped everything since — in business, it means spotting what's actually driving a team's behaviour, not just the symptoms on show.

Over three decades, I've worked directly with hundreds of teams across manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, retail, and higher education — not as a distant advisor with a slide deck, but on the ground, leading change from the inside. As a corporate trainer I delivered board-level development programmes for major international brands including Ford, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce Aerospace, JCB and Ikea. More recently, through my own consultancy, I've brought the same principles into higher education, leading leadership development at universities including Warwick, UCL and Manchester.
