Dr. Seok-Woo Lee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Connecticut, where he has been a faculty member since 2014. He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2011 and subsequently completed a Kavli Nanoscience Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship at the California Institute of Technology. His primary research expertise lies in the structure-property-processing relationships of advanced structural materials, with a particular technical focus on nano-mechanical testing, non-equilibrium processing of nanostructured materials, and the fundamental theory of dislocations. His contributions to the field of micromechanical characterization have been recognized with the NASA Early Career Faculty Award as well as multiple UConn Research Excellence Awards. Beyond his research, Dr. Lee is a dedicated mentor and educator, having received multiple UConn Mentorship Excellence Awards along with being named the MSE Teacher of the Year and the MSE Faculty of the Year. His scholarly record includes over 60 publications in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Science Translational Medicine, and Acta Materialia. He is also the author of the book Materials Matter: How Materials Shape Our World, which explores the broader impact of material science on society.
