Dr. B. Usha is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetic Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology with over 15 years of experience in teaching and research in the field of genetic engineering. She has taught a wide range of subjects, including molecular biology, molecular techniques, plant genetic engineering, and recombinant DNA technology, to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Her research focuses on the molecular characterization of medicinal plants, genetic studies related to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and phytotherapeutic approaches for PCOS management. Dr. Usha has published more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles with over 1,000 citations and has successfully supervised five Ph.D. scholars along with more than 40 undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
She completed her postdoctoral research at the University of Bielefeld, Germany and the University of Kentucky, USA. She earned her Ph.D. from the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, affiliated with the University of Madras. Throughout her career, she has received research grants from major funding agencies, including the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Department of Biotechnology, and the Department of Science and Technology, as well as industry-sponsored projects.
Through this course, Dr. Usha brings together her academic expertise, research experience, and passion for teaching to provide learners with a strong conceptual and practical understanding of Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology.
